Had I waited to save all the money on my own for a down payment on a house, I’d still be waiting.
And come another 5 or 10 years, I’d still probably be waiting.
The thing I found was that the prices of homes rise much faster than my salary does. And being a social worker, the odds of me making a great deal of money are slim. So if I wanted to get out of my apartment with the bad heating and cooling, I was going to have to get creative. And that’s exactly what happened. I joined together with two other couples to buy a share in a home. It’s a three story house which fits our needs perfectly. It was older so we had some upgrades to do which included the HVAC. Since we were having to replace the old HVAC equipment anyway, we thought we’d go with a ductless multi split heating and cooling system instead. This would mean putting in two ductless heat pumps on each floor and each floor was a separate living space. The only common area was the kitchen and we put a ductless heat pump in there as well. This HVAC plan has worked out quite well. We all have our own thermostats so we don’t have to find one thermostat setting for all of our needs. Plus, we are able to separate our power bills when it comes to the ductless heat pump use. This makes it easier to divy up our power bill. I’m so glad to be creating equity and not just flushing funds on rent. And the fact that I own my HVAC equipment is really exciting for me.
