A category 3 hurricane just swept through my town with amazing force. It was very scary. A tree fell on my neighbor’s house and we’ve been helping them clean up for the last couple days. Luckily, my house is totally fine and not a single tree fell down in my yard. Everyone in my family is totally fine and we’re just very relieved to have made it through. The worst thing for us is that the power is out and probably will be out for a week or two. That means no air conditioning. It’s 90 plus degrees outside during the day and it’s pure torture without a cooling system. There aren’t any stores or public buildings that have power or an A/C running right now either. The only way we can get relief from the hot afternoon sun without an air conditioner is to go to the local lake and go swimming. Of course, we have to be extra careful with the kids since there are definitely alligators in these lakes. I can’t wait until the power comes back on. I am going to sit in my house next to my air conditioner for days after that. Before this hurricane, I had not realized how much we truly rely on the air conditioner for comfort. There’s no way I would live in the south if air conditioners didn’t exist. This was the worst hurricane our region has seen in about 10 years. Hopefully this isn’t a sign that there’s worse to come! I don’t’ think I can deal without an air conditioner again this summer! I’ve had enough!
