I have consistently been a single kind of person who will do anything to follow the path of least resistance. If I recognize that I feel strongly about something,I fight for it and make it happen. But if I don’t recognize that I feel strongly a single way or the other, then I just go with the flow instead of making a stink. Why waste energy fighting battles that I am not actually very invested in? In any event, following the path of least resistance for myself is what landed myself and others here in this office, where I have been uselessly toiling away as an assistant for five years. It took a little while for myself and others to stop and realize I didn’t entirely prefer the work, or any of my co-workers actually. Thanks to a bad heating component and a visit from a local repair dealer, I may be right on the verge on turning things around. The Heating, Ventilation & A/C company strolled in wearing casual shorts and a collared tee shirt, whistling a tune as if he was ecstatic to be here at work. I have never once been ecstatic to be at work, so I right away dropped everything and started paying attention to the Heating, Ventilation & A/C task he was currently doing. I imagined myself tooling around town in the repair van, carefully tuning up A/C units and filling up freon canisters at my leisure. Maybe one day, if I could get a task now working on Heating, Ventilation & A/C systems for myself, I might be more relaxed, just the way this company was. As he repaired the office heater I asked him a few questions about his work, and then he explained that all Heating, Ventilation & A/C companies are difficult and you need to pass a particular test to become certified for them, so maybe I’ll just stay where I am after all.
