My brother Sean started up his own heating and air conditioning business a couple of years ago. Sean used to be a contractor, but he said that he got sick and tired of the headache of dealing with clients and all of their problems when he was building their houses. His favorite part of doing contracting work was always working with the HVAC technicians. He said that the guys who came to install the ductwork and the heating and air conditioning units in the new construction homes he built were always really great to work with. He also thought that the work they did was interesting and basically stress free. After years of being a contractor, Sean turned in his contracting license and then he went back to school to do a six month program to get fully certified in heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and air purification systems. Now that he’s started up his own HVAC business in our town, he says that his life is much happier and he doesn’t dread going to work anymore. He really likes the customers he meets when he’s out doing HVAC maintenance and installation and he says that the work is pretty straightforward and it’s very rewarding. I’m glad that he decided to go into another line of work, since the other job was stressing him out. Also, now that he’s able to work on air conditioners and furnaces, he comes and tunes up my units for me for free! I think changing his career path was definitely the right thing for him to do.
