I don’t know about you, but, funeral parlors make me nervous. I am not sure if it the fact that the person is deceased, or if it is the fact that I have to talk to so many people I don’t know. When my father-in-law passed, we had to spend two days in one of these places hearing story after story from people who had known him and many of them didn’t even know my husband. Anyway, we had to attend a wake the other day and, once again, I knew no one accept the one son and the wife of the person who had passed. As we waited in line to speak with them I noticed something rather strange. The funeral parlor was in a very old building and it had floor vents for the HVAC system. They were rather ornate from what I could see of them, however, they were all partially covered with a plastic tray. I have seen where they use a plastic shield to direct the airflow before but these were like the trays you would see at buffet. You know, the plastic covers off of the food trays. They were clear, so maybe they thought no one would notice them. I had to chuckle to myself because, apparently, someone who worked there, had decided to try and control the air flow without purchasing the right item to do so. I am sure that they thought they were saving money, but I don’t know how effective they were. I am sure that had the family noticed such a cheap fix they may have said something too.
