A few weeks ago, my wife and I took a three day weekend to the keys. We hadn’t been away in a few months, and it was time to clear our minds and relax. Since we have two kids, we were struggling with the decision to leave them alone at home. They are both teenagers, and my oldest son can drive. In the event of a real emergency, they would be able to drive to the hospital or fetch help. This was the first time that we decided to leave both kids alone overnight. At first, we were very worried. I called them every hour, just to check in. Everything was fine, and I felt better about our trip. The next morning, Davey called to inform us that the HVAC unit was making a funny sound. The HVAC unit was aged, and I thought it was a good idea to have someone check out the issue. I tried to call our regular HVAC provider, but I couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone. I called another HVAC provider in town, but I kept losing the call. Everytime the operator answered the phone, the call was dropped. I started to get frustrated, so my wife told me to wait a few minutes and try again. It took an hour to reach someone to check on our HVAC unit. We patiently waited for one of our sons to call with an update. Later that evening, Davey called to tell us the HVAC unit was fine. The strange noise was a loose wire that was hitting the motor belt.
