Ever since I was a kid, my favorite sport to play has been tennis. I was on the tennis team in high school, and enjoyed practicing after school every day. Now that I’m an adult, I still like to play tennis occasionally. My apartment complex has a nice set of tennis courts that are almost always open. It turns out, the tennis courts are always open because it’s so hot out there. Maybe it has something to do with the asphalt, but it feels like whenever I’m on the court, all the heat is drawn to that area. I feel like I’m being cooked in a frying pan after only about thirty minutes or so. When I was in high school I could play tennis for hours, but because of the heat I feel too exhausted to even finish one game. This even happens at night when the sun is gone, because it’s still humid. I might ask my friends if they would rather play racquetball, since racquetball rooms are inside the gym and wonderfully air conditioned. If my apartment’s tennis courts were air conditioned I would be there all the time. Air conditioning is especially important when you’re playing sports and getting sweaty. I don’t know how to play racquetball as well as tennis, but I think I’m going to learn because I would rather play in the air conditioning. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see if somebody comes up with the technology to make tennis courts air conditioned, and until then, find indoor sports to play.
