I recently downgraded from a lifestyle of luxury and elegance to a lifestyle of mediocrity and dullness. It has been anything but easy. My parents were very wealthy and, I admit, they spoiled me to no end. As an only child, I got almost whatever caught my eye, and so did they. For example, they bought some of the most luxurious cars on the market recently on a whim, and even bought me a matching play car. I was worried that my car was too small, so they bought me a real car and told me to wait to drive it until I had my license. Just like that! However, now that I am a young adult myself, I live on my own without the help of my parent’s finances. It is, to say the least, a challenge for me. I am not as well off as my parents are in any way, shape, or form. The very things I used to take for granted are the things I now long for. Even some things that may be considered necessities, such as a Heating and Air Conditioning system are hard to come by in my new world of limited finances! I never had to worry about feeling comfortable in my home as a child. My parents had an HVAC system that included a complete cooling system, a gas furnace, and a mobile temperature control unit. I cannot afford a Heating and Air Conditioning unit, so I don’t even have a gas furnace for the Wintertime! I only have a fireplace to keep me warm, and I can only dream of having an adequate cooling system to escape from the hot summertime temperatures. Feeling independent is amazing, but I think I would rather go back to my lavish life rather than living without these necessities.
