The town we live in is a relatively small town on the outskirts of a larger city. There are a couple local grocery stores and several dollar saver stores, but until recently if we wanted anything much more than groceries or basic supplies, we had to venture closer to the city and go to the mall. That was until last year when they built a megastore right down the street from us. The megastore has basically anything you could want at a decent price. It’s not always the greatest quality, but it’s usually a bargain. Last week I stopped in for motor oil and they were repairing the air ducts in the automotive section. The whole store has large ducting that connects to the industrial HVAC systems. These help circulate the warm or cool air throughout the store, depending on what time of year it is. While they were doing repairs to the ducting, I got the chance to take a look at one of the vents that they had lying on the floor. I never thought about the size of the ducting or vents until then, but the vents were at least ten times larger than the ones you would expect to find in most homes. They really have to be to distribute the amount of air that is pushed out by the large HVAC units that keep the store at a comfortable temperature. I guess you never know what you’ll discover in our little town, but I left the store with a newfound appreciation for the size of the industrial HVACs in the megastore.
