The people I was with and I have been having a lot of problems over the past year with our Heating, Ventilation, & A/C system. Our new 1 consists of a boiler, baseboard heating, & a dehumidifier that is hooked up in the basement. It is a pretty straight forward way to heat our beach apartment throughout the Wintertide & attempt to keep our seasoned cement basement dry. Yes, I said, cement basement. Our beach apartment was built in the early 1900’s as a boarding apartment for migrant farm hands. There was not a lot of thought put into a finished basement at that time. Previous owners added the basement which was dug by hand & only deep enough for the owner at that time to stand up in it. The ceilings are honestly low & we only use the space to apartment the boiler, tepid water tank, & a few other items as it is regularly damp. The people I was with and I had a serviceman from the local Heating, Ventilation, & A/C contractor come out to see what could be done to make our boiler toil better. He, sadly, told us that the moisture in the basement had taken a toll on the component & we would need to upgrade it. My wife had been waiting for this day to come! I say this because she has regularly had dreams of having a forced air system that would include a/c… Her hopes were dashed abruptly when the serviceman explained that we did not have any ductwork in locale & it would be, not only fancy to install it, but, nearly impossible due to the construction of the house. Walls would have to be opened up & suppliers hired to do the service work. The people I was with and I ended up just buying a new boiler instead.
