I nearly ran into disaster last week at my new studio. I recently became certified as a yoga instructor and so I began leasing out space in this beautiful old brownstone as my very first yoga studio. I’m quite young to be doing what I’m doing, so even though the studio is small and modest, I’m very proud of myself for getting to be where I am today. I’ve only started teaching classes about three months ago, and already I’m loving what I’m doing. My students are really enjoying themselves and already I’m finding myself tailoring lessons to their unique needs. However, I had an interesting time adjusting my lesson plans last week when I came into the studio to practice, only to find the AC was down. I tried everything and called the building manager; he said they wouldn’t have anyone out for at least three more days. But I had a lesson tomorrow! He said that due to the heatwave, that was the earliest HVAC contractor appointment he could make. I resolved to stay and get my practice in–I figured I could sweat it out on my own and hopefully think of a solution. That’s when it came to me–hot box yoga! I emailed all of my students to let them know this was going to be the class for the week, and put a routine together. I was so worried that my students wouldn’t be comfortable without the AC, but everyone dressed and prepared accordingly thank to my email. Hot box yoga turned out of be a huge hit!
