I have three dogs and I love them all to pieces. One is a german shepard and the other two are these cute little black dachshunds about two years apart in age. I have had dogs in the house my entire life in spite of having asthma–I probably spent the last ten years or so without any major problems. I live in a part of the country with regular pollen problems and since I have a fenced in backyard, I let my dogs roam free out back and then let them back in the house throughout the day. I have been living in this house for years but my breathing recently took a hit the last month. Constant coughing, can’t catch my breath, always sneezing and having nasty headaches–I knew I needed to figure something out fast. I asked my doctor about it and he suggested that I could be having issues with my indoor air quality. Even though I regularly change out my air conditioner filter, it can’t collect every single contaminant in the air. Some filters barely protect against mold spores and pet dander which are two of the biggest culprits for indoor respiratory problems. My doctor recommended that I buy some air purifiers for my house. Although they’re not cheap, they’re relatively inexpensive compared to putting in a large air purifying system connected to the central HVAC. He said that if I bought two, I could put one in my bedroom and another on the opposite side of the house. I’m amazed at the result, I see a ton of hair and grime collected in the filters and I think I can finally breathe for more than an hour without coughing up crud from my lungs. It’s not perfect but the change is considerable–I just wish I had known about these air purifiers sooner!
