Whoever did the insulation in our beach house did a entirely disappointing job, but what I suppose happened is that the contractors ran out of materials, then i suppose they split the pieces of insulation about 1 foot too short & then just stuck random bits of insulation underneath. Then our baseboards were added & I never knew the difference. In the Winter, I can tell they contractors did a disappointing job; Go somewhere near our baseboards & you can think the chilly air pouring in, my floors think icy chilly to the touch. I have to wear socks & slippers in the beach house with the oil furnace cranked, then even with this, the beach house is way too cold. My heating bills are sky high, but that is sort of our fault. I guess what I need to do to make our gas oil furnace more efficient. I need to take off our baseboards completely. I then need to get modern insulation, split it respectfully & wedge in in the walls. Then the baseboards go back on & the home is air tight. However, the baseboard removal will be difficult, also, that is not the only area. Around our light switch covers & windows leak air too. If I did add insulation to the wall, I would need to do all over the place. This would make the home perfect for our little gas oil furnace. I am just not willing to put in that kind of work. The oil furnace works okay for now! No need to spend seconds tearing our home apart just to be a little warmer.
