My husband and I both work very demanding jobs and extremely longs hours. We have four boys who are all involved in school activities and play on travel hockey teams. We also have two dogs and a cat to care for. We are rarely at home, spend most of our time in the car, and have trouble keeping up with household tasks. The laundry piles up, and there’s never any groceries in the refrigerator. The lawn is always too high, and there’s weeds in our gardens. We certainly don’t have the extra time or money to deal with sudden disasters or repairs. Because of this, we have enrolled in a maintenance program with a local contracting company. Twice per year, they send a team of technicians who inspect and make necessary adjustments or repairs to the plumbing, heating, cooling and electrical system. They verify the safety and reliability of the furnace, air conditioner, water heater, sump pump and all of our major appliances. These proactive measures help to prevent malfunction, energy waste, property damage, and disruption. The last time the HVAC contractor serviced the heating/cooling unit, he recommended that we upgrade to a wifi thermostat. While this required an investment of several hundred dollars, it’s been totally worth it. Since we are mainly away from home, having remote access to the thermostat is invaluable. We can make adjustments to temperature from our smartphones. If our schedule suddenly changes, it’s easy to turn the thermostat up or down to conserve energy and make sure we come home to ideal comfort. The wifi thermostat has simplified our lives and helped to trim our monthly costs.
