Efficiency is key

Have you ever heard of something called hurricane season before? I never had, maybe I am an idiot or maybe I just don’t watch weather reports for other parts of the country, but in any event, I planned out a Summer getaway to go see some relatives down south, unaware I was sojourning there in the dead center of the worst hurricane season in years… The trip down was smooth, & the first couple afternoons there showed myself and others sunny beaches & clear green skies. It was amazing… & then the hurricane hit, & everything changed. I was staying with our cousin Shirley, who cranked down the air conditioner & shuttered up his home the night before the storm made landfall. I really felt the A/C was turned down a little too low, but Shirley said there was a plan to his madness & to bear with it. In the middle of the night the power went out, but the home had been so cold from the excess A/C that we didn’t even get moderate until the next morning! By then he dragged out his portable generator & fired it up, so he could run the the air conditioner on a minimal basis. I would have thought that air conditioning would not be so important while I was in a hurricane, but I would have been wrong. The heat & humidity are so intense, even in the worst storm, that having access to climate control can be the difference between a bad experience & a bad one. But we had air conditioning & video games, so the storm ended up being pretty fun!
