As winter approaches my main responsibility for the household is to make sure our Air Conditioner and Heater system works correctly. In order to keep our home warm once the temperature drops below zero. I live with my family up north and winter can become quite punishing if the HVAC unit is not working properly. My wife appointed me to be responsible to keep the Air Conditioning and Heating unit serviced and maintained throughout the year. I make sure to change the air filters monthly and keep all debris clear of the HVAC unit outside of the house especially right after big storms. My wife and I signed a contract with the local A/C and Heating company to keep our costs down by maintaining the A/C bi-annually. Before the coldest part of winter the HVAC technician arrives and makes sure our Air Conditioner and Heater unit works and the thermostat has new batteries. Our children each have a job to help keep our costs down as well. The second we feel the cold air coming in we gather supplies such as extra wood for the fireplace, candles, blankets, canned food, and bottled water in case the electricity goes off. The children have backpacks with special items such as toys, coloring books, crayons, flashlights, snacks, and anything else that will keep them occupied. My wife made beef jerky by drying out beef and other snacks that are non-perishable. I make sure our dogs have food, toys, beds, and treats. We are fully prepared for anything that may occur this winter.
