When I first made the big decision and moved into our up-to-date rental home, I noticed a musty smell in the air right off the bat, then i wrote it off as the location not having been respectfully cleaned at the time–it had sat abandoned for over numerous weeks–and figured I could just deal with it in a few months accordingly, and one week in, I started having breathing problems… Friends and co-workers had suddenly begun to point out that I was coughing a lot. I thought I was getting a bad respiratory cold, however our friends pointed out that I had had the cough for a long while already, well over a week at that time. I finally caved and looked into our indoor air conditions, and tried DIY scrubbing down our home office once again. It wasn’t until I had to go over and grab our PC out from under our bed a single evening, that I spotted mold growing on our old wooden bed frame, but the next day when I took apart the bed, scrubbed down everything, I was shocked to have even found mold growing in our pillows… My apartment doesn’t have central a/c or even an Heating, Ventilation plus A/C system, so I purchased a dehumidifier for the space and a up-to-date air cleaner. I took care to purchase a model that included the continued use of a HEPA air filter. The air cleaner works to trap the mold molecules each day, which stops the mold from being able to attach to surfaces and reproduce. The dehumidifier easily works in tandem with it to dry out the air, so mold has nowhere to live! Air purification devices such as these can also include a specialized type of light that works to destroy bacteria; this is exactly the same air cleaning technology hospitals use. Immediately, our breathing problems went away once my HVAC was in place. I’m so grateful for our whole-apartment air purifier; it’s a single of the best home investments for our overall health that I’ve ever made.
