My partner and I really concerned about the health of our gas boiler. The model that came with our house is supposed to be whisper quiet, according to the HVAC company that makes and installs them. However, ever since we turned the heating on the gas boiler is as loud as can be. We can hear it all the way upstairs, even with the basement door shut. My home office sits right over where the gas boiler sits in the basement. Everyday, while I’m working from home and my partner is at work at the hospital, that gas boiler makes the most god awful racket. Finally, my partner and I had to sit down and decide once and for all to call the local heating and AC repair provider. We’re both really worried that the damage could be extensive. We just bought this house and a new boiler is not at all within our budget. However, we also can’t have the gas boiler just stop working in the dead of winter. At least if its major, we can buy space heaters in the meantime and have a dollar amount to save for for the repair. Well, as it turns out we needed to do neither of those things. The HVAC contractor found that yes, our boiler does have a problem, but it’s not a major one. The well water in our home had just caused limescale in the central heater, a very common problem in gas boilers. All our HVAC contractor had to do was descale our boiler, which he didn’t even charge us for, and we were good to go. Now the gas boiler is really running whisper quiet.
