Everyone has their corner of the house they love to retreat to. For some, it’s the den where they can curl up with a good book by the fire. My husband likes to get in his favorite comfy chair in front of the TV and watch whatever football game is on. Me, I like to enjoy the warmth and joy of living things, even when there’s a foot or two of snow outside, by going out to my greenhouse. My husband helped me make this dream a reality just three years ago, after he got his first big bonus from work. He bought himself a bigger flat screen TV, while I got the three season porch extended to be the entrance to the greenhouse. The whole thing is made possible by our HVAC system. First, we remodeled the three seasons porch to be a year round sunroom. This was done so we could add heating into it without losing the heat to the great outdoors. Once this was done, we continued running the heating and cooling system into the greenhouse. Both the sunroom and the greenhouse have their own HVAC zone control units. This means that the sunroom and the greenhouse can be completely different climate control settings than the rest of the house. In the greenhouse, we have a humidistat built in as well. The humidistat keeps the air from getting too dry for the plants. Nothing makes me happier than tending to my plants in my toasty greenhouse, no matter how cold it gets outside, and it’s all made possible by our heating and cooling system.
