During the time I was in university at the University of Tampa in FL, I was working especially hard to get my degree in music education. I also happened to be dabbling in Performing Arts and I would look for sites to play in public whenever I could manage. I played violin, and you would absolutely be stunned at the numerous sites there are to play violin music in the Tampa Bay, FL area when you’re going to school. I played at multiple wedding ceremonies in local Tampa area churches and I was even hired to play at this wonderful event called the Epiphany Celebration in nearby Tarpon Springs. Eventually, I played in enough sites around Tampa that people started to know who I was, even though I was just a seasoned university student at the University of Tampa (go Spartans)! It turns out that the FL Orchestra, which plays a great deal at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, was in desperate need of a third chair for their violin section. I went to the offices of the FL Orchestra and decided to audition. Happily, I was chosen to play third chair for the FL Orchestra in Tampa! Not only was I stunned that I did well at the audition, but I was offered the third chair violin seat in the FL Orchestra! The group of us played at the Straz Center every other weekend the entire time I was in school and it was a spectacular experience for me. Who would have ever imagined that messing around with the violin would help myself and others get through school and even help myself and others pay for our university education?
