When my husband, Richard & I were hunting for our house, we toured multiple properties. We could not agree on which house we should by because we each had our own opinions. I was hoping for an older home with character & original hardwood floors. I was prepared to do some work on the house. I feel that the craftsmanship of older homes can’t be equalled. They just hold up better when taken care of properly. This quality is not matched in materials anymore. A drawback of an older home, however, is that they usually require renovations in the bathrooms and kitchens. Richard had no interest in original character & tackling a renovation project. He simply wanted to move right in. In the end, his style of home was above our price range, so I ended up getting more of what I wanted. Richard and I agreed that a newer roof, Heating & Air Conditioning system were a priority. We were able to get those features in the home we ultimately chose. Once we moved in, Richard and I soon found that the Heating & Air Conditioning idea didn’t work all that great, even though the components were newer. We were aggravated to find that out. We called an Heating & Air Conditioning specialist to look over the existing gas furnace, air conditioner and vents. He said that the HVAC was in fact new, but the outdated windows in the home were allowing the conditioned air to escape. In the near future, Richard and I would need to invest in modern windows so that the Heating & Air Conditioning can heat maintain temperature more efficiently. Right now we’re suffering with higher energy bills than necessary. The positive thing about the situation is that Richard and I avoided the expense of replacing the Heating & Air Conditioning system.
