Honestly, I think I lucked out with my first apartment, and my parents are amused by it if nothing else. They say it reminds them a lot of their first home. Sure its older & its not the prettiest on the planet, however, it’s got a lot of features that I could never find at a location that’s smaller & newer than this for the same price.
For example, the pantry is a crucial walk-in, which allows me to park my bike in it so I don’t have to lock it up outside. We have a back entry walkup through the family room, so said bike does not have to be carried all the way through the apartment. Not only do we have a lot of space, but also real tile & hardwood floors. I also have an amazing Heating & A/C system that works great for me. This seasoned building has a gas boiler. With these old radiators. they’re truly kind of pretty; they have pretty scroll work so they look delicate rather than just sizable & in the way.
While the radiators & the pipes are original to the three storey building, the boiler is not. Each unit of the building has its own gas boiler, but since we live in the town, this is so common! Gas is an undoubtedly cheap form of heat, & running through a boiler is even more affordable… Unlike a forced air furnace, a boiler uses pipes which are less prone to heat loss. The result is I have a low utility bill, & my apartment is always hot & cozy.
