A couple weeks ago, my husband and I came back home and it smelled like old, fried fish. We knew it wasn’t the trash can or the air filter of the range hood, or a dirty air filter in the gas furnace. And so we tried using a portable air purification unit, and we both noticed a big difference in the smell of the air inside the house. Then it occurred to me that if the air quality was so awful that it was holding smells, maybe our air was holding germs. See, I had been sick for nearly three weeks, but now I was feeling better. So maybe my feeling better, had something to do with the whole-house air purifier. We called the local HVAC corporation to have them check out our HVAC system. We wanted to see if we were able to install an air purification plan into our current HVAC system. When the HVAC tech showed up, he cleaned our gas furnace as well as told us that it would be easy to install the air purification system for us. Plus he talked to us about installing a humidifier while he was at it; he said that the humidifier would rid us of a need for the portable humidifiers we were using. It was simple to install as well and he told us it would end up being much cheaper to run than the portable humidifiers as well as whole-house air purifiers. My husband and I looked up the cost of installation, which was a bit expensive, but compared to the doctor visits, as well as the energy savings, it would be worth it to not be sick all of the time! Plus we’d get rid of the smelly house.
