I have always been creeped out by dolls! Dolls and ventriloquist dummies, and as a child I never even wanted to have dolls much less a ventriloquist dummy! But wouldn’t you guess it, both of our kids have a fascination with dolls and dummies, and unfortunately for me, our kids keep getting dolls for their birthdays and for Christmas from their Grandparents and friends. I personally would like to throw them all in the trash, but our kids would just be devastated if I did. One evening a couple of weeks ago, I kept hearing this bizarre thumping sound coming from the basement, then abruptly, the a/c stopped running. I checked the thermostat in the hallway, but it looked normal to me. The temperature was set to the regular setting, which is 72 degrees. It was absolutely warm out that evening, so I was surprised that the air conditioner had stopped running. I was expecting freezing air to be blasting through the vents all evening, but well, when I heard the thumping in the basement, I decided to go down and check out our Heating, Ventilation, and A/C unit. I mean, I’m a grown woman, after all. I wasn’t exactly afraid to go in the basement by myself. That is, until I descended the stairs to the basement which we converted to a playroom last winter. We had spent a lot of time and money to create the finished room in the basement. And guess what happened to be resting in front of the door to the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C room? Yep, a substantial old creepy doll and an even creepier dummy. They were both resting there just staring out with their creepy, glassy eyes. Suddenly, I heard another loud thump from the door behind the dolls. At that point, I could have cared less what was wrong with the air conditioner! I flew back up the stairs as fast as I could go. Then I called the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C service company from down the street. I would just let them figure out the issue with the cooling system. Or get possessed by a doll. Whatever, as long as it isn’t me!
