Earlier this year my wife and I had to deal with a huge pest problem in our home. We had carpenter ants and bees! I was up to my eyeballs in work. We hired a professional to come in and check that the structural integrity of the house was still intact. That ended up being a minor fix. However, we soon found out from the exterminator that the pests had infiltrated the HVAC ducting. They may have even had nests in there for all we knew. At that point we needed to make a decision…. We either needed to take the change that when we went to use our HVAC next, there may be dead bugs in it, or we had to have an HVAC technician come in and clean the whole system out for us. Obviously we chose the second option. We did not want to have to deal with dead bucks, yuck! We found a local HVAC specialist with a moderate rate and had him come out to do the cleaning. It took a while to do every single duct and vent in the house, but once it was done, I was grateful that I wouldn’t have to do anything else for a while. When the weather started to turn colder, and we turned our heating system on for the first time since the whole pest problem, we held our breath. It was perfectly fine, however. Our HVAC system worked perfectly, and there was no smell, no issues at all with it. I really felt like the headache and money I invested in the extra work was worth it at that point when I could turn my heat on and have everything go smoothly from then on out.
