Comfort in the Classroom is Key

As a mom, Wednesdays are easily the busiest in addition to longest days of the week for me.

  • I start our day bright and early at 5AM with a cup of tea in addition to easing into some work on the tablet.

I have the great opportunity to do my job from home, which also comes with it’s pros in addition to its cons. One of these cons is that I must to be disciplined in addition to stay focused. Getting up that early gives me an opportunity to task a bit in our office before our son gets up and needs attention. On Wednesdays, I take him to school at 7AM. Then, I stay until 12 to help out in his classroom. I savor these time I spend at his school, because it’s a good feeling environment. The school is now only 5 years old, so everything is renovated or brand new. This includes the HVAC system! When I was just a kid, the people I was with and I were lucky to even have any central heating & air. Instead, the people I was with and I opened our windows and then hoped for a breeze or maybe a cool day. Every classroom has a temperature control, which is then set by the school district each day according to weather predictions. The district believes deeply in keeping their students comfortable so they may focus on studying. I’m always super impressed at how neutral the temperature in his classroom actually feels. I’m never too warm or too cold while I’m volunteering. Another thing his school does, is maintain the air filters. Instead of having them replaced as the unit starts becoming less energy efficient, they actually check them at the end of each week and make the replacements when needed. I very much look forward to the time I spend in our son’s classroom with all the fresh air.
