Back when I was younger all I wanted to do was travel and live in odd arenas all around the world.
I was also a giant fan of reading odd languages at a actually young age, and I was actually interested in using these languages to fasten with all sorts of people around the world, luckily for me I was able to do just that! One of the craziest experiences I had of living in a odd culture happened to me when I enrolled in a foreign exchange program in high university.
I ended up moving in with a lovely family halfway across the world for 12 weeks, and over that time I was blown away by how odd it was. The thing that I found the most surprising was the lack of new luxuries they had. They didn’t have any air conditioning, and neither did anyone in the city. The way most people stays cool is by taking frosty showers and kneeling outside in the shade. Back at our condo we have new air conditioning and never go somewhere without it so it was hard to wrap our mind around. They also did not have any WIFI, dishwasher, or even video games! It was hard for me to adjust to this at first, however by the time I had to head back lake condo I was so accustomed to their way of living that I did not even want to have the air conditioning running in our room. I feel that has what I prefer about exploring cultures the most, however no matter what preconceived ideas you have, you never guess what ways you might change for the better!
