Fourth Of July Mishap with Fireworks Hitting Outdoor A/C Unit and Causing Fire

Before we knew it, the shrubbery around the a/c unit was up in flames

Every Independence Day, I count my blessings. I am grateful to have been born in this great country. That is not to say that I think other countries are not good. I am sure there are lots of wonderful places to live. However, I do know that we are truly blessed in many ways in this nation. I also find myself remembering past Fourth of July celebrations. Some of those celebrations were joyful, some were hilarious, and some were even downright dangerous. For example, when we were young kids, we would often cool off by swimming in dangerous places. Since few places were using air conditioning, we got cool by jumping in canals, rivers, and even off of piers and around ocean inlets and such. Also, we were not as careful with our fireworks as we should have been. One fourth of July there was a mishap. Our neighbor went to another state and bought all these incredible fireworks that aren’t even legal in our state. He spent several hours shooting off rocket-shaped exploding devices. It was a lot of fun until one of the fireworks came over the backyard fence, hit our outdoor a/c unit, and caused this huge fire. Before we knew it, the shrubbery around the a/c unit was up in flames. We had to run over to the side of the house and get the water hose. The air conditioning unit was shooting out flames, and the more the a/c fan turned, the farther out shot all these twigs and things that were on fire. It was almost like the a/c unit became another sort of firework propellor! Now that I am an adult, I am much more careful about things such as air conditioning units and fireworks and swimming with alligators!
