Inlaws are gone!

I’m free! I can’t believe it’s actually happening! I never thought this day would arrive. I feel so unsupervised and relaxed, for the first time I can remember. What’s going on in my life? Well, my inlaws are finally out of it, at least for a few days! I can’t recall the last time I had the house to myself, but I bet it was the day before they “temporarily” moved in. You see, the trouble began last year when a big hurricane ripped through their town and did damage to the property they own in Florida. They had walls and windows to be repaired, not to mention the deplorable indoor conditions caused by a lack of air conditioning for several weeks. During the reconstruction, they asked to move into our house for a few weeks. No problem! Except it’s now been 6 months. It’s not that I dislike my inlaws, either, but we do disagree on a few important points. Namely, since their HVAC system is completely out of commission, they seem to think that they can control our thermostat for themselves. I want them to be comfortable, and if that means using a ton of AC each day, I have no problem with it. I will take on the added expenses of getting the AC unit professionally serviced by a local HVAC company so they can blast the air conditioning each day – there’s no issue with that. However, I wish they would consider how much our monthly energy bills have been for the past 6 months and maybe offer to chip in. I don’t think we need the house to be kept at 65 degrees through continual central cooling system usage, so it’s a little awkward to pay ComEd ourselves each month. WIth them out of the picture for the weekend, our AC unit and energy bill are finally getting a well deserved break.
