Mini Split A/C System Was Stolen by a Former Employee in my Department

I’ve always heard that supervisors get really worried about disgruntled employees after they leave.

Until recently I never knew why.

I cannot think of any scenario in which I would retaliate against a past supervisor. I think that doesn’t mean I am like everyone else. Apparently, there are lots of concerns with ex-employees coming back to their old workplaces & trashing things. And they shall often try to wreak havoc with the supplier, fellow co-workers, or to vandalize crucial equipment. They might even also steal things from the office for their own use. I found this out the hard way when someone from my department stole our only air temperature control component for the entire office last week. This guy had been acting like a jerk at job for weeks. He hadn’t been doing his job so they canned him. A month or two later, I walked into the office & something seemed off. The department was awfully quiet, as though there was some background noise missing. It took my colleagues and I a hot minute to realize that it was air temperature control equipment. Our department has always had a small mini split ductless heating & cooling plan installed in the office that provided great air conditioning. As the day went on, it began getting warmer & warmer in our department. I looked up at one point wondering when the cooling system was going to blow some a/c down, only to realize that the entire mini split ductless heating & cooling plan was no longer there. There were only wires hanging where the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C component was just last week. It sure was a tepid & humid month finally working without any AC… & it was also pretty embarrassing to have our coworkers mock our whole department for being so in-observant.
