I try to make the best of every situation, including bad ones.
A couple of weeks ago, I took our kids sledding.
As a child I loved going sledding and I have instilled that love into my kids. We go into town where they have this cool sloping hill that is kept clear just so people can sled and toboggan. I see a lot of adults there that are afraid to be kids, but not me. We get wet and cold and then head home to steaming hot chocolate and heating from our furnace. We would gather in the family room and relax in the heating from the furnace. A couple of weeks ago, we got home from a long day of sledding, and the heat wasn’t on. I immediately called the HVAC company and they said it would take a couple of hours before they could arrive. I gathered the kids into the car and headed to town for a space heater. The space heater couldn’t really keep us warm, but it took the chill off the family room. When the HVAC technician finally arrived, it didn’t take long for him to find the problem with the furnace. When he told me we needed a new furnace, I simply groaned. He told me it would take a couple of days to get the new furnace and I looked at the kids. As much as I loved them I couldn’t face being in one room with this single space heater for the next three days. We packed up and headed to a hotel. We were only in the room for a couple of hours and we went sledding again. At least we had heat to go back to.
