To celebrate, he surprised me with a winter vacation in a warm, tropical climate.
I was unbelievably excited.
It had been a cold winter so far, and I am not a big fan of the cold. I had the tendency to hide in the house as much as I could all winter long, which isn’t really healthy, but those cold bluster winds seem to go right through me.So, a tropical vacation was a beautiful thing to me. The flight was uneventful, if a little overheated. It seemed silly to be carrying heavy winter coats as we unboarded the plane. The first thing I noticed when we left the airport, other than the warmth, was the many majestic palm trees. This was a beautiful place and we had a beautiful vacation. The temperatures were in the 80’s and, the first destination was the beach. We spent the first day in the hot sun, followed by a quiet evening in a cool air conditioned motel room. I never expected to enjoy air conditioning in the middle of winter! Most of the rest of our tropical vacation was spent outdoors, and quiet evenings in the motel room or an air conditioned restaurant. The last nigh of our vacation, we slept with the air conditioner off and the balcony doors open to catch the warm ocean breeze. How I wished I could take that warmth home with me! We had such an awesome time that I actually regretted going home. I wished our vacation could last forever. That was two years ago. Now, my husband and I have made it a tradition to take a winter vacation in a warm, tropical climate every year, each year choosing a different destination, but always one with sunshine and motels with balconies and air conditioning. With his promotion, we can afford it.
