Boy, that warm air felt good
I don’t know why some people think that kids don’t notice things like central heat and air conditioning. My sister claims she thought her kids barely noticed the heat or air conditioning at all. I think she was being sarcastic. She complained all the time that her kids left the outside doors open. We were taught better. And, I, for one, appreciated central heat and air conditioning. I remember going without it. We lived in a couple of different places and only one had central heat and air conditioning. I remember prickly heat on my chest one hot summer because all we had to cool off with was a window fan. I remember some really ugly space heaters, too. And waking up in my parent’s room where they had a window air conditioning unit after passing out while playing in the summer heat. I hated to leave that nice, cool room. Some of my fondest memories involved a home with central heat and air and I think that was the home that I was happiest in. I remember coming into a nice, warm house after playing out in the cold snow. I remember eating my cereal on the floor near the vent on cold winter mornings. Boy, that warm air felt good. I remember sheets cooled by an air conditioned room against hot sunburned skin, and the low hum of the HVAC unit outside my bedroom window lulling me to sleep at night. I admit that when I was a kid, I wasn’t as bothered by extreme temperatures as I am as an adult. But, that doesn’t mean that I didn’t appreciate the comforts of central heat and air conditioning as a kid.
