I knew when I first started up the oil furnace at the end of fall that I had a problem. The heating plan kicked in instantly but it made a very frightening noise. A good deal of dust blew from the vents plus the heated air smelled strongly of burning hair. I hoped that it would labor out those complications that are often the result of sitting idle. I was reluctant to call a licensed Heating plus A/C corporation plus hoped to avoid the time plus expense of oil furnace repair, but unfortunately, last Wintertide was especially brutal, by Thanksgiving, the two of us had many feet of snow on the ground plus the temperature was down into the teens… Over the Christmas holidays, the temperature dipped down to twenty-six below zero plus the snow just kept falling. I concerned that my struggling oil furnace would suddenly quit at a very inopportune time. I absolutely didn’t want to get stuck paying much higher overtime charges for a repair in the middle of the evening. I also doubted it would be possible to go without heat while I was in such bad weather. When I finally got around to calling for repair, all of the nearby companies were extremely tied up plus I was forced to wait almost a month for an appointment. When the serviceman took apart the oil furnace, he said I was very fortunate it hadn’t failed completely. There was a major buildup of dust plus other contaminants within the inner workings, restricting airflow plus putting added strain on the heating unit! Fortunately, I managed to avoid further mangle plus replacement of the whole system. With a thorough cleaning, the oil furnace was running officially again.
