Our winters are brutal, snow, ice and it goes on for months. Once it gets close to Halloween, you might as well say it’s winter and it is pretty much unrelenting for the next 6 months. But, I am glad because I am a fan. Having been raised in this area, I don’t have a hatred for the cold. I suppose that cozying up in the Heating and A/C comfort of our modern home has always been the way in my house. That’s not to say that I haven’t ever been someplace else. I moved South for college. I liked the fact that every one of us could be outside and throwing the frisbee around for the entire winter. However, the holidays were so disappointing to me separate from any snow or cold temps. Plus, when it did get cold, I couldn’t get used to no Heating and A/C gas furnace heat. It is true that the weather in our modern home area has a lot to do with why I want to live here. My partner and I now live about 25 miles from where I went to school. In fact, every one of us is building our first home. Our kids will be grown and gone in a few years, so every one of us wants something smaller and more sustainable as we reach our golden years. All of us chose to heat and cool the modern site using geothermal Heating and A/C. Geothermal takes advantage of the near constant temperature of the ground and underground to provide both heat and cooling energy. It was a financial commitment for sure; however, every one of us will be enjoying the huge utility savings when all we have is social security.
