Careful about weight lifting

I really enjoy lifting weights.

I love feeling the burn in my muscles.

As I workout with weights, I like to watch the muscles bulge and flex. I’ve invested in a weight bench and a series of dumbbells. I’ve bought resistance bands, battle ropes, weighted balls and weighted poles. My goal is to increase strength and tone my muscles. As a woman, I’d prefer not to bulk up. I need to be extremely careful because I tend to put on muscle very quickly. I’ve learned to avoid lifting heavy weights. I make sure to stick with lighter weights and high repetition. I try to target all the different muscle groups equally. I workout for about an hour every morning. I only allow myself to weight train four days per week. On the other days, I stick with high intensity cardio workouts such as running, biking and jumping rope. I also incorporate squats, lunges, burpees, mountain climbers, jumping jacks, push ups and abdominal crunches. I’ve learned that these different types of exercises help with all over body fitness. I burn calories and tone and sculpt my body. I avoid injury and over taxing myself. Although my favorite part of the workout is weight lifting, I know that it’s important to have a balanced fitness program. I need to get my heart pumping, work up a sweat and prioritize stamina, balance and flexibility. I regularly sign up for group fitness classes such as yoga, pilates, spin and crossfit. These classes are a great way to get motivated, have some fun and try something new.
